Free social walks to improve health and explore local routes

The October walks are now finished. We will be incorporating the routes into a legacy  map we are developing for the project. But if you want to try one now you can download the basic details here.

Throughout October BFF are offering three local led walks to bring the community together to socialise, improve health and encourage exploration of local routes and short cuts to useful destinations.

The group will be led by two highly experienced health walk leaders who can give advice and support to anyone who has concerns about walking.

The circular walks are of different lengths to meet different levels of experience,  needs and time available. They aim to familiarise local residents with short cuts and walking routes they may not be aware of as well as provide an opportunity to get out for some fresh air, exercise and to meet some other local people.

Two of the walks are also suitable for mums, dads or carers with buggies.

Mondays 6pm: Meet at Costa Coffee, Turner Rise Retail Park, Petrolea Close, Colchester, CO4 5TU,

A walk of approximately 1.5 miles. This should take between 35-50 minutes depending on pace. Street lit urban walk suitable for after dark, (also suitable for buggies.)

Thursdays 10.30am: Meet at The Bricklayers, 27 Bergholt Road, Mile End, Colchester, CO4 5AA.

This walk is split into two sections, each of just over 1.5 miles. The whole walk should take between 1hr 10mins and 1hr 30mins depending on pace. (Mainly footpaths, some uneven and possibly slippery surfaces). First section suitable for buggies

Saturdays 9.30am Meet at the Dog & Pheasant, 24 Nayland Road, Mile End, Colchester, CO4 5EG,

A walk of approximately 4 miles. This should take between 1hr 40mins and 2hrs depending on pace. (A mix of urban walk and footpaths, some uneven and possibly slippery surfaces).

Printed and downloadable maps of the walks will be also be available in due course from the BFF web-site for those who want to do the walks at other times and not as part of a group

No booking required simply go along to the meeting point for each walk and look out for our two walk leaders who will be in Best Foot Forward T-shirts.

You may have noticed that all the walks have been arranged to start and end at a local eatery so that anyone who wants to stay on and socialise over a drink or food is able to do so!
