We had a fantastic turn out for our February Play Walks, however due to the high numbers we have introduced a booking system this time. We will accommodate everyone but may need to stagger start times slightly if numbers are very high so that the walk is more enjoyable for everyone. Please book below if you want to come along.
Join us for our two final play walks of the Best Foot Forward Project!
If you came to the High Woods Play walk back in February why not try Charter Wood this time and vice versa?
The Best Foot Forward project is all about encouraging people to travel actively and to think about alternatives to driving. Use our Journey Planning page to help plan your journey to the Play Walk.
Our April Play Walks are special as we share with you the play trails developed by the children at Braiswick Park and Queen Boudica primaries through their term time after school Play Walks.
Last year Braiswick, Myland and Queen Boudica primaries offered after school play walks to their pupils to open up the play opportunities of nearby green spaces. With the help of a Forest School Leader parents and children were able to explore the local environment together and spend time playing outdoors.
Over the weeks of exploration and fun, the children established a route in Charter Wood and High Woods country park that they loved to follow with stopping places for imaginative play, looking for plants and insects, telling stories, climbing and building dens.
We hope that these can inspire and give ideas to families to go for their own Play Walks, and explore the play opportunities in known and new local green spaces.
To make the walks extra special, every child that comes along will receive a special gift to treasure and take home with them that we promise will give you hours of family fun in the future!
Monday April 3rd – 10am
High Woods Country Park – meet outside the Visitor Centre
Charter Wood – meet at the corner of Axial Drive near the railway line just down from Propelair Way (on the road nearest the underpass that leads to Charter Wood)
We appreciate that Charter Wood is a little more difficult to get to, but make this part of the adventure! There are steps down to the sub way and a gate into the wood, however we will have people to help lift buggies so don’t let this put you off. The number 66 bus stops in Bergholt Road or you can catch the bus to the station and then walk through the car park and up onto Bergholt Road recreation ground, and through the allotments. Use the Journey Planning Page to help you plan your journey. If you are on your bikes you can come up through the station car park and via the allotments. Use the Colchester cycle map to look at cycle routes.
